Box Score

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Senior Emily Van Horn (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) set the program record for defensive saves in a career and the Gettysburg College offense continued to roll with a 5-1 non-conference victory at DeSales University Saturday afternoon.

Coming into the game tied with Megan Bernstein '12 for the all-time mark, Van Horn wasted no time in climbing into sole possession of the defensive saves record, halting a shot by Jesse Marshall just over nine minutes into the game for her 17th career stop.

DeSales (0-2) managed to hit the scoring column first with a goal by Meryah Harding following a penalty corner in the 13th minute. The Bullets answered eight minutes later as junior Samantha Wright (Darien, Conn./Darien) tallied her team-leading fourth goal of the season following an assist by classmate Catherine Towers (Midlothian, Va./St. Anne's Belfield).

After several more shot attempts, the visitors eventually found pay-dirt again as sophomore Lindsay Kraus (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School) corralled a loose ball and sent it back into the cage with less than nine minutes remaining in the first period.

Gettysburg continued to press the advantage in the final stanza, firing off 20 shots at the cage. DeSales' keeper Savanna Lacek held the Bullets at bay with four saves in the opening minutes of the frame until junior Kathryn Hardman (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) connected off a feed by junior Hannah Fitzgerald (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck). Just three minutes later, Fitzgerald found Hardman again to make it 4-1.

Fitzgerald would tie the school record for assists in a game with her third helper to sophomore Casey Eck (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) in the 57th minute.

Gettysburg held decisive advantages in shots (36-16) and penalty corners (15-6). Sophomore goalie Haley Mowery (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Northern) recorded three saves on the day, while Lacek finished with 18 stops for the Bulldogs.

Gettysburg will travel to No. 8 Catholic University for a non-conference contest on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 6 p.m.
