HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's soccer team held Haverford to just two shots on goal, but the host Fords managed to put one in the net for a 1-0 Centennial Conference (CC) victory Saturday afternoon.
The Bullets (6-3, 2-1 CC) suffered their first Centennial Conference loss of the season while Haverford (7-1-1, 2-0 CC) pushed its undefeated streak to eight games.
Kathy Prescott made three saves to earn the shutout for Haverford while sophomore
Kiera Loftus (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) made one stop for Gettysburg.
The Fords pressured the Bullets early, taking three shots over the opening 8:22. After their first attempt hit the crossbar, their second shot was turned aside by Loftus in the fifth minute.
Haverford finally broke through in the ninth minute, as Skyler Ellenburg buried a shot from the 18 on a pass back from Leanne Ludwick.
The Fords would outshoot the Bullets 5-2 for the period and hit the crossbar again in the 21st minute. Gettysburg placed two shots on goal in the half, but Prescott made saves on sophomore
Samantha Esposito (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) in the 33rd minute and junior
Gillian Sencindiver (Strafford, Pa./Conestoga) in the 44th minute.
Haverford went on to hold a 4-2 shot advantage in the second half. Gettysburg took one more potential game-tying shot, but senior
Hannah Theurer (Darnestown, Md./Northwest) was denied by Prescott in the 83rd minute.
The Bullets return to action on Wednesday, when they host 19th-ranked College of New Jersey at 6 p.m.
