Box Score
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's soccer team earned its sixth shutout of the season, as the Bullets played Dickinson College to a scoreless draw in Centennial Conference (CC) action Thursday evening at Clark Field.
Â
With the tie – its first of the season – Gettysburg (6-5-1, 2-2-1 CC) now finds itself in fifth place in the Centennial Conference standings with four conference matches remaining. The top-five teams qualify for the CC tournament.
Â
Sophomore goalie
Kiera Loftus (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) authored her fifth clean sheet of the season for the Bullets, making four saves while facing 14 Dickinson shots. Amanda Masterson stopped two shots against eight shots from Gettysburg.
Â
It was just the third tie between the two teams and the first since a 1-1 decision in 2003. It was also the first scoreless draw between Gettysburg and Dickinson since 1991.
Â
The two sides started the match aggressively, taking six shots over the opening nine minutes. However, only one was on target, with Masterson stopping an offering from senior
Hannah Theurer (Darnestown, Md./Northwest) in the fourth minute.
Â
The last 36 minutes of the half included just four shots, with the Red Devils (5-4-4, 0-3-2 CC) holding a 6-4 shot advantage at the break.
Â
Dickinson had perhaps the best scoring opportunity of the night on a breakaway early in the second half. Briona Davis slotted a shot across the goalmouth that just missed, and Elizabeth Krause had some room when she tracked down the ball on the left side. However, her rebound deflected off the left post.
Â
The Bullets also received one of their better looks early in the period, when a header from sophomore
Samantha Esposito (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) sailed just high.
Â
Loftus made a pair of saves in the final 14 minutes of regulation, first on a quick rip by Gabriella Tomasini off a throw-in, then on a blast at the top of the box by Olivia Termini, who entered the night with nine goals, in the 87th minute.
Â
Neither side was able to put up a threat in the two overtime periods, with the teams combining for just four shots. Termini put the only shot on goal in the extra sessions when her long-range attempt was picked out of the air by Loftus with four minutes to go.
Â
Gettysburg returns to Centennial Conference play on Wednesday, when it visits McDaniel College at 3:30 p.m.
