GETTYSBURG, Pa. Senior Samantha Wright (Darien, Conn./Darien) scored a pair of goals and senior Kit Towers (Midlothian, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) posted a goal and two assists to help Gettysburg dash past McDaniel 6-1 in a key Centennial Conference field hockey contest Tuesday at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

With the win, Gettysburg (6-6, 4-3 CC) broke a tie with McDaniel (4-10, 3-4 CC) for fifth in the conference standings with just three games left on the regular season schedule. Only the top five teams earn a bid to the league tournament.

Gettysburg jumped to the early lead as Wright tipped a cross by Towers into the cage 6:37 into the game. The lead jumped to 2-0 on freshman Julia Soares' (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) first collegiate tally in the 26th minute.

Junior Haley Mowery (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Northern) wasn't tested often, but she made the most of her opportunities with a pair of saves in each half. The only attempt to get by her was a hot shot by Sarah Bach off a penalty corner with 4:28 remaining in the first period.

The Bullets opened the floodgates in the second half. Towers started the offense by tapping a pass from Soares past the McDaniel keeper in the 43rd minute.

Gettysburg tacked on three more goals in less than six minutes later in the final frame. Senior Hannah Fitzgerald (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) flipped a reverse shot over the keeper at 52:28 for her seventh goal of the year. At 56:28, senior Tori Sankey (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) redirected a pass by Towers and less than two minutes later Wright put the feather in the cap by knocking home a perfectly placed cross by junior Lily Neibart (Morristown, N.J./Pingry). The goal was Wright's team-leading 12th of the year and her seventh in the last four games.

Gettysburg finished with a 23-8 advantage in shots and a 14-6 edge in penalty corners.

The Bullets take on No. 12 Muhlenberg College on Friday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. in Allentown, Pa.
