Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Ninth-ranked and undefeated College of New Jersey used a big first half to register a 5-1 non-conference victory over the Gettysburg College women's soccer team Wednesday evening at Clark Field.

The Lions (9-0-1) scored all their goals in the opening half before the Gettysburg defense settled in to blank the visitors in the second period.

Facing its second top-10 opponent this season, Gettysburg (6-4) became the first team in seven matches to score on TCNJ when sophomore Lauren Miesemer (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) struck in the 83rd minute with her second goal of the year. The Lions had shut out their last six opponents and yielded just three goals entering the match.

Sophomore Kiera Loftus (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) started between the pipes for the Bullets and made seven saves while playing the first half. Freshman Taylor Sehdev (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) came on to post a scoreless second half while also making seven saves in just her second collegiate appearance.

The Lions scored on their fourth shot of the game, when Jessica Goldman buried a shot from deep in the left wing. Just over a minute later, Christine Levering cashed in on a free kick from just outside the box. Haley Bodden followed up in the 22nd minute on a shot that deflected off a Gettysburg defender and into the net to make it a 3-0 game.

The Bullets shut out TCNJ for a long stretch in the middle of the half before the Lions tacked on a pair of tallies inside the final four minutes. After Loftus made a diving save at the right post, Taylor Nolan kicked in a loose ball inside the left post. Then with less than a minute to go, Callen Vandermay hooked in a corner kick from the left to give the Lions their 5-0 halftime advantage.

Gettysburg was held without a shot on goal before breaking through on Miesemer's goal – a beautiful long-range shot from the left side that found its way beyond the grasp of keeper Jessica Weeder and into the upper-right corner of the net. Freshman Caroline Kostecky (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson Fair Haven) set up the goal with her first collegiate assist.

Gettysburg returns to Centennial Conference action on Saturday with another nationally-ranked opponent, taking on No. 16 Swarthmore College at 4 p.m.
