Box Score 2 WINCHESTER, Va. – Sophomore
Aileen Reilly (Huntington Station, N.Y./St. Anthony's) picked up two wins on the mound and classmate
Wendy Folfas (Westminster, Md./McDonogh School) drove in four runs as Gettysburg College completed a sweep of Shenandoah University in non-conference softball action Sunday.
Gettysburg (3-1) cruised to an 8-0 win in the opener behind Reilly, who allowed only three hits and struck out nine in five innings of work. The only base runner to reach scoring position for Shenandoah (3-3) was on a lead-off triple to start the fourth inning. Reilly put that threat to rest quickly by striking out the next three batters.
Leading 1-0, the Bullets opened things up in the fourth inning with six runs. Sophomore
Mykaela Twitchell (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) plated the first two runs with a double to right-center and came around to score on a single by junior
Jamie Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton). With the bases loaded later in the frame, Folfas slapped a double to left-center to clear the bags.
Folfas finished 1-for-3 with one run and three RBI. Junior
Sam Misurell (Franklin Park, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) went 3-for-3 with a run and two stolen bases, while Twitchell reached base three times on a hit and two walks and scored a pair of runs.
With Reilly on the mound for the beginning of game two, the Hornets struck first for a run in their first at bat. The hosts had runners on second and third, but the Bullet sophomore struck out the next two batters.
Gettysburg nearly missed out on a golden opportunity in the second inning after loading the bases with one out as the lead runner was thrown out attempting to score on a passed ball. Twitchell came through in the clutch, lacing a two-run double to left-center.
The Bullets added two more runs in the top of the third inning on a two-out single by freshman
Meredith Taylor (Hamilton, N.J./Northern Burlington County Regional). Taylor doubled in another tally in the fifth to make it 5-1.
Reilly gave way to freshman
Morgan Clauser (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) in the fifth inning and the first-year allowed only an unearned run in the sixth on the way to picking up her first collegiate save.
Sophomore
Stephanie Leonardo (East Haddam, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) scored Gettysburg's final run on a single by Folfas in the seventh.
Folfas finished 3-for-4 with one RBI, while Taylor went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Twitchell, Leonardo, and senior
Meghan Hisgen (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) each posted two hits. Reilly improved to 3-1 after allowing one run on five hits and striking out three. Clauser did not allow a hit over the final three innings and fanned two.
Gettysburg opens a 10-game spring break with outings against Rutgers-Camden and Roanoke University at the Virginia Wesleyan Beach Blast on March 5. Two days later, the Bullets begin an eight-game stretch in Myrtle Beach, S.C., opening against Eastern Mennonite University at 9:30 a.m.
