Box Score

EWING, N.J. – Sixth-ranked College of New Jersey scored the final two goals of regulation and then picked up the game-winner with 1:39 left in overtime to get by fifth-ranked Gettysburg College 10-9 in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

Saturday's contest marked the third-straight overtime meeting between Gettysburg (5-1) and TCNJ (5-0) and it was the 11th time in the last 17 meetings the decision came down to a single goal.

The Bullets held the advantage for most of the first half. After Mia Blackman tossed in the first goal for the Lions, the visitors tallied five of the next six scores. Senior Abby Baigelman (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) kicked off a three-goal run and after a score by Cortney Natalicchio made it 3-2, back-to-back goals by sophomore Katie Landry (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) and senior Amanda Borucki (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) made it 5-2 with 4:47 left in the first half.

Senior Emily Tropsa (Darien, Conn./Darien) scored with 14 seconds left in the opening period to set the score at 6-3 at halftime.

TCNJ went on the attack in the second period, more than doubling Gettysburg's shot attempts in the period (17-8). Despite a pair of saves by junior goalkeeper Shannon Keeler (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown), the Lions trimmed the deficit to one with goals by Megan Devlin and Natalicchio to start the second half.

The Bullets came right back with a pair of goals. Baigelman tallied a free-position score at 20:36 and junior Caroline Jaeger (Hampton, N.J./North Hunterdon) added another eight-meter goal to boost the lead to 8-5 with 15:59 to play

Natalicchio scored 23 seconds later and after a pair of saves by goalie Miranda Chrone, the Lions pulled within a goal once again at 12:19. Landry scored what would turn out to be Gettysburg's last goal with 10:53 left in regulation.

Chrone kept Gettysburg off the board with two more saves in the next two minutes. That opened the door for Erin Harvey to slice the deficit to 9-8 with 5:18 left. Keeler stepped up the challenge against the Lions' offensive press, stopping five shots over the next five minutes to keep her team in front. The sixth shot by the hosts found the mark, however, as Devlin tied the game with 26 seconds remaining. Keeler turned away an attempt by Devlin as time expired to send the game to overtime.

Keeler saved another shot by Devlin to start the extra session, but Gettysburg was unable to end the game with a pair of shots missing wide. After a shot by Blackman caromed off the post, TCNJ gobbled up the ground ball and Natalicchio capitalized on the second chance opportunity for the game winner.

TCNJ held the lead in shots (30-22), ground balls (16-8), and draw controls (12-10).

Baigelman, Jaeger, Tropsa, and Landry all finished with two goals. Jaeger grabbed five draw controls and senior Maggie Connolly (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) posted two assists and three draw controls. Keeler finished with a dozen saves and two caused turnovers.

Natalicchio accounted for four goals and two assists. Devlin posted three goals, one assist, and three draw controls. Elizabeth Morrison came up with four ground balls and five draw controls, while Chrone contributed seven saves.

Gettysburg will face another top-ranked foe when No. 8 York (Pa.) College comes knocking on the gates of Clark field on Wednesday, March 23, at 4 p.m.
