GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior Jamie Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) planted the first pitch she saw to the gap in left-center to score the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two as Gettysburg College picked up a split in a non-conference softball doubleheader with Hood College on Tuesday.

Hood (11-7) dropped eight runs in the third inning on the way to an 11-6 victory in the opening game. Gettysburg (14-4) bounced back in the nightcap, erasing a 6-2 hole to win 7-6 on Abell's walk-off hit.

The Bullets struggled defensively in the opener, committing a season-high six errors in the game. Three of the miscues came in the third inning and resulted in half of Hood's runs being unearned. The Blazers led 9-0 after three innings.

Gettysburg chipped away at the lead with runs in four consecutive innings. In the fifth, sophomore Mykaela Twitchell (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) launched a solo home run to right-center. One inning later, junior Sam Misurell (Franklin Park, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) showed off her home run trot for the first time in her career after blasting a shot to right-center to bring in two more runs and cut the lead to 9-5.

The Bullets closed the gap to 9-6 before Hood tacked on two more runs on a triple by Roo Saglimbeni in the top of the seventh.

Twitchell and senior Meghan Hisgen (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) each went 2-for-4 with a run with the former adding two RBI. Misurell finished with three RBI.

Hood busted out four runs in its opening at bat in game two, including two via a home run by Kayli Paugh. The Bullets answered in the home half of the frame with a run-scoring single by Twitchell and an RBI ground-out by Hisgen.

The Blazers picked up single runs in the third and sixth to jump in front 6-2. Gettysburg tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Freshman Sara Braungard (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) singled through the right side to score one run and senior Steph Zengel (High Bridge, N.J./North Hunterdon) brought home the tying run with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Hood's lead-off batter drew a walk in the seventh, but the runner was quickly eliminated on a double play started by third baseman Stephanie Leonardo (East Haddam, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall).

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, the Bullets picked up back-to-back singles by freshman Meredith Taylor (Hamilton, N.J./Northern Burlington) and Misurell. After the second out of the inning, Braungard drew a walk to load the bases.

Abell came up ready to swing and planted Sophia Leaman's first pitch in between the leftfielder and centerfielder about 200 feet from home plate to bring home Taylor.

Abell finished 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Taylor picked up three hits in four at bats, while Misurell went 2-for-4 with a run. Braungard finished 2-for-3 with a walk, one run, and one RBI. Zengel logged her second hit of the day and extended her hitting streak to 15 games. She added an RBI and now stands just three hits and five RBI short of the program's career standards.

Freshman Morgan Clauser (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) improved to 6-0 with the victory. She allowed four earned runs and struck out five.
