Bullets Cruise Past Redhawks

No. 6 Gettysburg beats Montclair State 13-3

Senior Maggie Connolly picked up an assist one each of Gettysburg's first five goals on Saturday.
Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior Amanda Borucki (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) and junior Emma Christie (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) each scored five goals and senior Maggie Connolly (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) dished out five assists as sixth-ranked Gettysburg raced past Montclair State University 13-3 in women's lacrosse action at Clark Field on Saturday afternoon.

Gettysburg (3-0) set an early tone defensively with junior goalkeeper Shannon Keeler (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) stopping the first shot she saw at the cage. The Bullets came right back with three scores in 57 seconds. Connolly set the stage for each tally, including a lightning-fast eight-second score by senior Abby Baigelman (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) to make it 3-0.

Keeler racked up two more saves and Gettysburg kept rolling on rolling with Connolly tacking on two more helpers before tossing in her own goal to lift the lead to 6-0 with 19:52 to go in the period.

Borucki scored the final three goals to send the hosts into the break with a 9-0 lead.

Francesca Verrone tallied the first two scores of the second half to put the Redhawks on the board. Montclair won each of the next three draw controls, but Gettysburg's stifling defense forced turnovers which led directly to more offense for the home team. Christie picked up two more goals, while Borucki scored her fifth goal to make it a 10-goal lead with nearly 20 minutes on the clock.

Gettysburg fired off 33 shots, while holding Montclair to just 11. The Bullets also held the edge in ground balls (21-12) and draw controls (9-8).

Borucki topped her personal high by one goal. Christie, the reigning Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week, finished one shy of her career high and has posted 11 goals in the last two outings. Connolly set a new personal standard with six points and she grabbed six draw controls. Baigelman finished with a pair of goals.

Senior Emily Tropsa (Darien, Conn./Darien) and freshman Brooke Holechek (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) each posted three caused turnovers. Junior Caroline Jaeger (Hampton, N.J./North Hunterdon) came up with four ground balls.

Keeler finished with three saves in 51:20. Freshman Bailey Pilder (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) picked up one stop in the final 8:40.

Gettysburg travels to seventh-ranked Salisbury University (3-0) on Wednesday, March 9, at 3:30 p.m.
