GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Six different Bullets scored a goal and junior goalie Haley Mowery (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Northern) made 12 saves as the Gettysburg College field hockey team cruised to an 8-1 non-conference victory over Cabrini College Saturday afternoon at a sweltering Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.
 
With the temperature approaching 90 at game time, the Bullets (2-1) were hot from the start, outscoring the Cavaliers 3-0 in the opening half and 5-0 in the opening 41:38. The Orange and Blue held decisive advantages in shots (31-18) and corners (15-5) against a Cabrini squad that was coming off a 4-3 victory over third-ranked College of New Jersey.
 
Seniors Hannah Fitzgerald (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) Samantha Wright (Darien, Conn./Darien) registered two goals and one assist apiece for the Bullets, who have now outscored their opponents 20-6 over their first three games. Fitzgerald moved up several career lists at Gettysburg and is now tied for third in assists (20), ninth in points (72), and 10th in goals (26).
 
Junior Lindsay Kraus (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School) added one goal and one assist for Gettysburg while sophomore Victoria Umbach (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) contributed a pair of assists.
 
Taylor Bookman made 13 saves for Cabrini (2-3).
 
Senior Kathryn Hardman (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) put the Bullets on the scoreboard seven minutes into the contest when she tipped in a deflected goalie save.
 
Neither team would score over the next 15 minutes before Gettysburg struck twice over a 2:42 span late in the half. Fitzgerald eluded a defender off a corner pass, then backhanded in a shot from the top of the circle with 13:02 left in the half before Kraus tipped in a blast from junior Philippa Lumsden (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) with 10:20 showing, giving the Bullets their three-goal advantage at the break.
 
The hosts outshot Cabrini 10-8 in the first half, when Mowery made six of her saves.
 
Gettysburg continued to roll in the second half, scoring twice over the opening 6:38 of the period. Fitzgerald took a shot from the top of the circle that was tipped home by Wright 4:40 into the half, and two minutes later Wright struck again, converting from the right wing to make it a 5-0 game.
 
Cabrini broke up the shutout with 21:51 left, when Katie Kucia scored from the center of the box off a pass from the right side.
 
The Bullets closed the afternoon with three more goals. Senior Kit Towers (Midlothian, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) deflected home a pass from Kraus with 17:50 to go before Umbach set up the team's last two tallies. Junior Casey Eck (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) pushed home a shot from the left doorstep with 13:24 remaining before Fitzgerald took a pass from the right and sent home another well-struck ball from the top of the circle with 2:15 left.
 
Gettysburg outshot the Cavs 21-10 in the second half. Mowery stopped seven shots over the final 35 minutes.
 
The Bullets take a week off before opening Centennial Conference play next Saturday, when they host No. 4 Ursinus College at 4:30 p.m.
