Lareau scores game-winner for Gettysburg

Tatum Lareau celebrates her goal versus Elizabethtown.
Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Freshman Tatum Lareau (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) scored her first collegiate goal, and it held up as the game-winner as the Gettysburg College women's soccer team blanked Elizabethtown College 1-0 in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon at an extremely hot and humid Clark Field.

The Bullets (2-1), who played without four starters and had three freshmen in the starting lineup, outshot the Blue Jays 16-6 and allowed just one shot on goal. Gettysburg posted its second-straight shutout and has now yielded just one goal over their opening 278 minutes this season.

Sophomore goalie Kiera Loftus (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) stopped one shot to record her second shutout in three days.

Hailey Parks made seven saves for Elizabethtown (1-3).

The Bullets outshot the Blue Jays 7-4 in the opening half, but that's when Parks made five of her saves and it was a scoreless game at the break. The Orange and Blue came up with a big defensive play in the 29th minute, when an E-town shot got behind the goalie and was headed for the net. But junior defender Nicole Crofton (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) made a hustling clear to prevent the goal.

Gettysburg nearly got on the scoreboard when freshman Brielle Farrell (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) had her shot carom off the left post before Parks scooped it up as it rolled near the goal line.

The Bullets broke through in the 52nd minute, when Lareau drove down the center of the box, lost the ball momentarily, then recovered to boot it inside the right post for all the offense her team would need.

Senior Julia Ramsey (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) came close to doubling the Bullets' lead in the 81st minute, when Parks made a leaping save on a well-struck ball from the outside.

Elizabethtown threatened late, when it received three corner kicks in the final three minutes. But on their best look at the goal, Morgan Chambers' header sailed high.

Gettysburg finishes off its three-game homestand on Wednesday, when it hosts York (Pa.) College at 7 p.m. in another non-league tilt.
