GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College volleyball team bounced back from a tough loss Friday night to win a pair of matches in decisive fashion on Saturday to conclude the Battlefield Classic in Bream Gym.

The Bullets (3-1) – just over 12 hours removed from a 3-2 setback versus Salisbury University – opened the morning with a 3-1 (25-27, 25-14, 25-12, 25-17) victory over Gallaudet University before sweeping Marywood University 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-13), closing out its season-opening tournament with a 3-1 mark.

Junior setter
Stephanie Blair (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) dished out 70 assists on Saturday and 130 (8.67 per set) for the weekend to capture a spot on the All-Tournament Team for the Bullets. She also contributed 3.73 digs and a team-leading 0.87 aces per set over the four matches.

Versus Gallaudet, it was a nip-and-tuck affair throughout the opening set, but the Bison opened up some breathing room midway through the stanza. Gettysburg led 12-11 before the visitors assembled a 7-1 run. The Bullets rallied to take the lead and were serving for set point at 25-24 before Gallaudet rallied with the final three points.

Gettysburg was in control the rest of the way, however, and never trailed beyond 6-5 in any of the remaining sets. The Bison were held to .059 hitting or lower in each of the last three frames.

Blair enjoyed a big match with 34 assists, 16 digs, and five aces while freshman
Francesca Garison (Metuchen, N.J./John. F. Kennedy Memorial) led the Bullets offensively with 15 kills. Classmate
Kasey Higgins (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) was close behind with nine kills while junior
Katherine Gilbert (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) added 22 digs.

The Bullets continued their momentum later in the afternoon versus Marywood, never trailing the entire way while hitting a season-high .400. In the opening set, Gettysburg led just 18-15 before ending on a 7-2 spurt.

The Orange and Blue got hot over the last two stanzas, hitting .438 and .448, respectively. The Bullets opened on a 4-0 run in the second period and extended it to eight (14-6) midway through it. The hosts also started strong in the third, outscoring Marywood 5-0 before breaking it open with a 10-3 surge that made it 20-10.

Garison had another big match offensively for the Bullets, throwing down 12 kills while hitting a blistering .647, making just one error on 17 attempts. Junior
Maddie Weikert (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and freshman
Shannon Fletcher (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) added 10 kills apiece while Blair posted 36 assists and eight digs. Freshman
Caroline Sequeira (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) contributed 15 digs.

Gettysburg continues its season on Wednesday, when it visits Elizabethtown College at 7 p.m. in a non-conference tilt.
