Catholic Rallies Past Bullets in OT

Santini, Ozoh Score for Gettysburg

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Catholic University rallied from a late 2-1 deficit and the host Cardinals edged the Gettysburg College men's soccer team 3-2 in overtime Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference match.

Sophomore Precious Ozoh (Abujah, Nigeria/Holderness School [N.H.]) scored to put Gettysburg up 2-1 with 22:47 left in regulation, but the Cardinals (6-7-4) tied it in the 85th minute before netting the game-winner 1:18 into the extra session.

The Bullets (12-4) lost their first road game of the season after starting 8-0 away from Clark Field.

Senior Patrick Santini (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) put the Orange and Blue up 1-0 just 2:14 into the contest with his 19th goal of the season. He dribbled to the top of the box where he collided with a drawn-out goalie before shooting into a wide-open net. Santini's goal gave him 42 points for the year, which moves him past Chris Pryor '00 and into third on Gettysburg's single-season list. His 19 goals also rank third in school history.

Gettysburg would threaten often throughout the remainder of the half, but Zachery Tashjy made four saves in the period as the Bullets carried a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

Both sides had plenty of good looks in the second half, when Gettysburg outshot Catholic 12-7. But Tashjy made another four saves for the Cardinals while sophomore Thomas Keane (Potomac, Md./Gonzaga College) turned aside three shots for the Bullets.

The hosts pulled even in the 67th minute on a header from Bradley Piero, but Ozoh put Gettysburg back in front just 26 seconds later. He accepted a cross from sophomore Lawrence Ku (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) and dribbled around the goalie before drilling in his second goal of the season. It was also his second tally in his last three games, and it gave Ku his first collegiate assist.

Catholic tied it again when Brian Galfond scored following back-to-back stops from Keane with 5:44 left in regulation. Then just over a minute into overtime, Patrick Morgan scored on the first shot of the extra session as the hosts completed their comeback.

The Bullets finished with a 17-14 shot advantage. Tashjy finished with eight saves while Keane made three stops.

Gettysburg plays its regular-season finale on Saturday, when it hosts Centennial Conference foe Ursinus at 4 p.m. on Senior Day.
