EWING, N.J. – The Gettysburg College women's soccer team held third-ranked College of New Jersey to over three goals below their season average, but the undefeated Lions edged the Bullets 1-0 in a non-conference affair Wednesday evening.
Facing an offense that had outscored its opponents 40-0 over its first nine matches, freshman
Kerry Sammon (Pearl River, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Angels) made a season-high eight saves for the Bullets (5-3-2). She collected three stops on eight shots in the opening period, then registered another five saves while facing a 12-shot attack in the second stanza.
TCNJ (10-0) scored the game's loan goal in the 21st minute, when Jessica Goldman finished off a cross from Kayla Bertolino.
In the 16th minute, sophomore
Samantha Esposito (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) attempted Gettysburg's loan shot on goal but had it saved by Nicole DiPasquale, who earned the shutout.
The Bullets return home on Saturday, when they take on Haverford in a Centennial Conference affair.
