Strong Second Half Lifts Gettysburg Past Hamilton

Third-ranked Bullets down Continentals 10-6

Caroline Jaeger '17 scored two goals and an assist during an 8-2 run to end Tuesday's game against Hamilton.

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. – Third-ranked Gettysburg College scored eight of the final 10 goals on the way to a 10-6 decision over Hamilton College on Tuesday.
 
Gettysburg (5-0) trailed 4-2 with 11:51 to play in the first half before senior Caroline Jaeger (Hampton, N.J./North Hunterdon) kick-started a five-goal run at 10:29. Junior Katie Landry (Hingham, Mass./Hingham), who assisted on Jaeger's goal, tossed in a goal of her own with 2:40 left in the half to tie the score going into halftime.
 
Sophomore goalie Bailey Pilder (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) picked up two saves in the early going of the second half to keep the score deadlocked. The Bullets finally broke through again with a goal by freshman Rebekah Riley (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) at 23:32. Additional goals by Maggie Welsh (Rye, N.Y./Holy Child) and senior Emma Christie (Cos Cobb, Conn./Greenwich) gave Gettysburg a 7-4 lead with 13:55 left.
 
Hamilton (1-3) came right back, picking up a goal by Casey File just 25 seconds later. The Continentals pulled within one on a free-position goal by Morgan Fletcher at 11:37.
 
The Bullets ended the contest with a three-goal run. Jaeger started the streak with a free-position tally at 9:27. After a save by Pilder, freshman Courtney Patterson (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) scored with just over two minutes left. Christie polished off the victory on a feed from Jaeger with 27 seconds to go.
 
Jaeger and junior Katie Willis (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) each tallied two goals and one assist. Christie finished with two goals, while Landry ended up with one goal and two assists. Sophomore Steph Colson (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley) recorded four draw controls and two caused turnovers. Senior Katelyn Neillands (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) and junior Ali Gorab (Southport, Conn./Ludlowe) each tallied two caused turnovers.
 
Pilder finished with four saves in the second half. Senior Shannon Keeler (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) made three stops in the first half.
 
Gettysburg closes its spring trip against SUNY Fredonia on Thursday at 5 p.m.
