ENGLEWOOD, Fla. – Fourteen players hit the scoring column as the third-ranked Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team blew out SUNY Fredonia 20-4 on Thursday.
Gettysburg (6-0) registered the first seven goals with freshman
Courtney Patterson (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) and junior
Maggie Welsh (Rye, N.Y./Holy Child) each turning in two scores. After Fredonia (1-5) picked up back-to-back goals, junior
Katie Landry (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) had a hand in the next three Bullet scores, logging a goal and two assists. The Orange and Blue led 10-3 at the break.
The two teams exchanged goals to start the final period, but Fredonia's goal at 25:41 would be its last. Gettysburg ended the game with a 9-0 run as eight different players hit the scoring column. Junior
Maggie McClain (Wexford, Pa./Sewickley Academy) recorded a pair of goals during the run.
Gettysburg dominated the draw circle and won 23-of-25 draws in the game. Senior
Caroline Jaeger (Hampton, N.J./North Hunterdon) grabbed six draw controls to go with one goal and one assist. Freshman
Claire Macatee (Street, Md./North Harford) added five draw controls, while junior
Cassie Smith (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) and Patterson each corralled three.
Patterson was one of six Bullets to net a pair of goals, joining Welsh, McClain, Landry, freshman
Liza Barr (Medford, N.J./Shawnee), and sophomore
Steph Colson (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley). Landry added three assists.
All four Gettysburg goalies saw action with senior
Shannon Keeler (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) making one save in the opening 11:56. Keeler earned the victory, giving her 52 for her career and moving her into second place on the program's all-time list.
