Morgan Clauser (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) picked up her eighth win of the season and freshman
Sarahrose Jonik (Glenmoore, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) posted a pair of RBI as Gettysburg College salvaged a split with Shenandoah University with a 4-2 win in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader.
Shenandoah (7-15) won the opening game against Gettysburg (13-5) 10-1. The Hornets unloaded for nine runs in the top of the fifth inning, four of which were unearned. Elizabeth Everette held the Bullets to five hits and struck out four in the win.
The hosts rebounded in game two and jumped on the board on an RBI single by Jonik in the first inning. Shenandoah tied the game in the third and was poised for more with two runners aboard for leading hitter Lindsay Corbin. Corbin followed through with a single to the right-center gap, but the lead runner was thrown out at the plate. Clauser struck out the final batter to preserve the tie.
Gettysburg surged in front with three runs in the fourth inning. Sophomore
Sophia Blasius (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) led off the frame with a triple and Jonik brought home the pinch runner with a single up the middle. Senior
Sam Misurell (Franklin Park, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) plated the next run with a double to right-center. A fielder's choice led to the Bullets' final run.
The Hornets cut the deficit with a run in the sixth, but Clauser left a runner stranded on the bases in both of the final two frames to earn the win. The sophomore improved to 8-1 after scattering seven hits and striking out five.
Jonik finished 2-for-2 with a walk, run, and two RBI, while junior
