HAVERFORD, Pa. – Senior
Jamie Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) and junior
Wendy Folfas (Westminster, Md./McDonogh School) each totaled five hits as Gettysburg College racked up 29 base knocks in a sweep of Haverford College Saturday afternoon.
Gettysburg (15-8-1, 4-3-1 CC) rallied in the opening game against Haverford (4-14, 0-6 CC) with seven runs in the seventh inning for an 8-3 win. The Bullets kept rolling in the nightcap with 19 hits in a 14-2 decision.
The Bullets struck first in the opener with a bases-loaded walk in the second inning, but the Fords took advantage of their own bases-loaded scenario with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Junior
Aileen Reilly (Huntington Station, N.Y./St. Anthony's) allowed just one more Haverford batter to reach base in the final three innings. Reilly set down five of the final 10 batters down by strikeout and tied a career high with 11 whiffs in the game.
Down to its final at bat, Gettysburg wasted no time with each of the first four hitters smacking singles and turning in two runs. Sophomore
Meredith Taylor (Hamilton, N.J./Northern Burlington) and Folfas followed with RBI singles before freshman
Sarahrose Jonik (Glenmoore, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) decked her first career home run to bring in the final three runs of the game.
Folfas finished 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Senior
Sam Misurell (Franklin Park, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) went 2-for-3.
Reilly allowed three runs on two hits and four walks and improved to 6-5 this season.
Gettysburg opened game two by scoring five runs in the first inning. Folfas plated the first two with a single to center field and freshman
Liz Cowell (Verona, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic) cleared the bases with a double down the left-field line.
After Haverford scored one run in the bottom of the first, the Bullets came right back with three runs in the second. Abell, Taylor, and Folfas all posted RBI doubles in the frame.
The good times kept rolling in the third inning with 11 batters heading to the plate and coming up with five more runs. Freshman
Taylor Doi (Foster City, Calif./San Mateo), Abell, and Folfas all picked up their third hits in as many innings, while sophomore
Sophia Blasius (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) plated two runs with a single to right-center.
Freshman
Noelle Zimmerman (Villanova, Pa./Baldwin School) accounted for Gettysburg's final run with a pinch-hit single in the fourth inning.
Doi and Abell each finished 4-for-5 with three runs and Abell also drove in two. Folfas went 3-for-3 with four RBI, while Taylor and Blasius each recorded two hits.
Sophomore
Morgan Clauser (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) improved to 9-2 with the victory. Clauser struck out seven while allowing two runs on four hits over five innings of work.
Gettysburg turns right around for a conference doubleheader at Dickinson College on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
