Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md.  – Franklin & Marshall College scored three unearned runs in the first inning and that proved to be the difference in a 7-4 decision over Gettysburg College on the second day of the Centennial Conference Softball Championship at McDaniel College.

Gettysburg (26-13-1) will face Washington College (25-15) in an elimination game Sunday at 10 a.m. The Shorewomen knocked host McDaniel College out of the tournament with a 7-4 decision. Franklin & Marshall (16-20), which is making its postseason debut, advances to Sunday's championship set to begin around noon.

The Bullets began the day on a positive note as freshman Taylor Doi (Foster City, Calif./San Mateo) led off with a single and came around to score on a single up the middle by junior Wendy Folfas (Westminster, Md./McDonogh School).

After scoring one run against Gettysburg in the regular season, Franklin & Marshall jumped out with three runs in the bottom of the first – all unearned. Sam Clemens singled to left and came all the way around to score on a throwing error. Another error set the stage for a sacrifice fly by Katie Wenger and the final run came on a single by Ryan Correa.

Correa belted a two-run homer in the third to boost the advantage to 5-1.

The Bullets countered by taking advantage of three errors to score three unearned runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning to pull to 5-4.

Franklin & Marshall tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth on back-to-back hits by Lexi Piccinich and Megan Ryan. Gettysburg threated in the top of the fifth by putting its first two runners on base, but failed to cash in with three consecutive fly-outs. The Bullets managed just one more hit in the final two innings.

Sophomore Sophia Blasius (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) and junior Stephanie Leonardo (East Haddam, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) each posted a pair of hits, while Doi scored two runs. Senior Jamie Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) posted a hit and sits five shy of the program's career mark of 213.

Sophomore Morgan Clauser (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) fell to 14-6 with the loss after allowing seven runs (four earned) on 11 hits. Junior Aileen Reilly (Huntington Station, N.Y./St. Anthony's) tossed two scoreless innings of relief.
