YORK, Pa. – A balanced offense and a lock-down defense vaulted the Gettysburg College men's soccer team to a 4-0 non-conference victory at York (Pa.) College on Sunday.
Three different players scored for the undefeated Bullets, who were also aided by an own goal. In the meantime, the defense allowed a paltry three shots, including just two on goal.
Gettysburg is now 4-0 for the second time in the last three years. The Spartans (2-1-1) suffered their first loss of the season.
Senior
Max Karen (Huntington, N.Y./Elwood-John Glenn) made a pair of saves to earn his second shutout in as many starts this season.
In the ninth minute, Karen saved the game's first shot on goal. The Bullets would take three shots before sophomore
Jeff Scheafer (Timonium, Md./Calvert Hall) cashed in with what held up as the gam-winning goal, scoring on a header in the 29th minute. It was his first goal of the season and the second of his career.
Karen registered his final save in the last minute of the half, and Gettysburg carried a 1-0 lead into the locker room. The Bullets outshot York 4-3 in the opening stanza.
The Gettysburg defense did not yield a shot in the second half, while the Orange and Blue reeled off six shots. Senior
Patrick Santini (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) found the back of the net once again, striking for his fifth goal of the season as the Bullets assumed a 2-0 advantage. Santini has now scored in five straight games, dating back to last season.

Sakyi Hylton-Dei (Geneva, Switzerland/Mercersburg Academy [Pa.]) connected for his first collegiate goal, finishing off a feed from sophomore
Matt Stine (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) in the 82nd minute.
Gettysburg finishes with decided advantages in shots (10-3) and corner kicks (8-2).
The Bullets play their Centennial Conference opener on Saturday, when they visit Washington College at 7 p.m.
