Gettysburg Continues Perfect Start at Washington

Bullets improve to 12-0 with two more wins

CHESTERTOWN, Md.  – Two unbeaten teams entered the Cain Athletic Center, but only one left with an unblemished mark as Gettysburg College continued its perfect start to the season with a Centennial Conference win over Washington College and a non-conference victory over Rosemont College on Saturday.

Gettysburg (12-0, 1-0 CC) and Washington (9-1, 0-1 CC) both entered the match with unbeaten records. The Bullets turned in their best attacking effort of the season up to that point by knocking down 38.2 percent of their attempts for kills. The team managed at least 16 kills in each set on the way to a 25-17, 25-23, and 25-19 victory.

Freshman Allie Stranick (Havertown, Pa./Merion Mercy) led the offense with 15 kills and put up seven digs. Sophomore Shannon Fletcher (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) was the most efficient Bullet with 10 kills on just 13 attempts (.769). Sophomore Kasey Higgins (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) added nine kills, while senior Maddie Weikert (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) went for seven kills and 10 digs.

Senior setter Stephanie Blair (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) set the stage for the efficient attack with 41 assists and recorded three aces and eight digs. Senior Katherine Gilbert (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) led the defense with 11 digs, while sophomore Melissa Tringali (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) posted eight digs.

Gettysburg was even better on the attack in its second match against Rosemont (1-7). The Bullets hit .453 in the sweep (25-10, 25-13, 25-9). Higgins led the way with 10 kills and freshman Faith Adams (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) was a perfect 9-for-9 on her attack attempts. Sophomore Sierra Conboy (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) led the defense with six digs.

Gettysburg heads to McDaniel College for a conference contest on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m.
