GETTYSBURG, Pa.  – After dropping its first match of the season earlier this week, the Gettysburg College volleyball team used a well-balanced effort to overpower Ursinus College and get back to its winning ways on Saturday inside Bream Gym.

Gettysburg (13-1, 2-1 CC) connected on a third of its attack attempts on the way to 25-7, 25-16, and 25-21 victories over Ursinus (4-9, 0-2 CC). The Bullets never trailed in the match, but the Bears did pull to 20-19 in the third set. Junior
Rachel Gombatz (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) had a hand in the next three points, dishing out a pair of assists and serving up an ace to quell the threat.

No players reached double-figure kills, but six managed five or more. Senior
Maddie Weikert (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and freshmen
Allie Stranick (Havertown, Pa./Merion Mercy) and
Sophie Gelling (West Chester, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) each tallied seven kills. Sophomore
Kasey Higgins (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and freshman
Faith Adams (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) each went for six kills, while sophomore
Sierra Conboy (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) recorded five kills.

Wiekert paced the defensive effort with 15 digs. Sophomore
Melissa Tringali (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) logged 10 digs and classmate
Caroline Sequeira (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) added eight.

All three setters saw time leading the offense with senior
Stephanie Blair (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) posting 15 assists. Gombatz dished out a dozen in the final set.

Gettysburg travels to Shenandoah University for a non-conference match on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
