WESTMINSTER, Md. – Senior
Patrick Santini (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) scored the game's lone goal while the Gettysburg defense posted its fourth shutout of the season as the Bullets captured a 1-0 victory at McDaniel in a Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer match Wednesday afternoon.
The Bullets (6-2, 2-1 CC) registered decided advantages in shots (16-5) and corner kicks (11-2) and limited McDaniel (5-2-1, 1-2 CC) to just one shot on goal.
In the opening half, the Bullets outshot the Terror 9-0, but Nick Over made a pair of saves for the hosts.
Gettysburg broke through on the first shot of the second half. In the 50th minute, a long ball was played into the box and headed out by a defender. But Santini was there to head the ball into the back of the net and give his team all of the offense it would need. It was Santini's team-leading ninth goal of the season.
The rest of the match was controlled by the defense, with McDaniel taking the lone shot on goal the rest of the way. Sophomore
Thomas Keane (Potomac, Md./Gonzaga College) made his lone save in the 81st minute while collecting his second shutout of the year.
The Bullets return to the pitch on Saturday, when they host 23rd-ranked Haverford at 7 p.m. in another Centennial Conference tilt.
