Bullets Down Shenandoah in Non-conference Match

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Allie Stranick (Havertown, Pa./Merion Mercy) posted 19 kills and 20 digs and junior Caroline Sequeira (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) put up 23 digs to lead Gettysburg College to a 3-1 victory over Shenandoah University in non-conference volleyball action Tuesday evening inside Bream Gym.
 
Gettysburg (16-5) won the opening two sets 25-12 and 25-11 before Shenandoah (8-13) took the third 26-24. The Bullets closed the match strong with a 25-11 finish. The Hornets posted a negative hitting percentage (-.030) and were victimized by 15 aces by the hosts.
 
Stranick turned in a monster match, setting a personal high for kills and recording her fourth career 20-dig effort. She did most of her damage in the fourth set, knocking down 7-of-11 attack attempts and putting up five digs. Sophomore Sophie Gelling (West Chester, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) tallied seven kills and a pair of blocks.
 
Sequeira extended her streak of 20-dig performances to six and registered her 10th such effort of the fall. The junior libero tallied seven digs in each of the final two contests and served up a team-high five aces in the contest.
 
Gettysburg split setting duties between senior Rachel Gombatz (Farmington, Conn./Farmington), and freshman Sarah Ellis (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area). Gombatz finished with 17 assists and three digs and Ellis finished with nine assists.
 
Hannah Lien and Caylin Harris each posted eight kills for Shenandoah. Harris added a dozen digs, while Nicole Shannon posted 17 digs.
 
Gettysburg hosts Swarthmore College in its final regular-season home match of the season this Friday at 6 p.m.
