HAVERFORD, Pa. – Sophomore
Allie Stranick (Havertown, Pa./Merion Mercy) posted a dozen kills in each match as Gettysburg College walked out of Gooding '84 Arena at Haverford College with a pair sweeps Saturday afternoon.
Gettysburg (15-3, 4-1 CC) cruised past host Haverford (6-12, 1-4 CC) in a Centennial Conference affair with scores of 25-11, 25-20, and 25-19. The Bullets played a more tightly-contested match with Kean University (13-9), but still managed to pull off a sweep with scores of 26-24, 25-23, and 25-17.
Stranick pounded down a dozen kills and finished a dig short of a double-double in the match with Haverford. Junior
Kasey Higgins (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and freshman
Jordyn Horowitz (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) each posted 10 kills, while sophomore
Sophie Gelling (West Chester, Pa./Downington STEM Academy) tallied eight kills.
Junior
Caroline Sequeira (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) led the defense with 21 digs in the opening match. Freshman
Sarah Ellis (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) and
B.N. combined for 37 assists and 12 digs.
Gettysburg faced set-point in the first contest against Kean. The Cougars pulled away in a back-and-forth battle to take a 24-19 lead. Stranick led the comeback with back-to-back kills and following two attack errors by Kean, added a third successful strike to tie the set. Two more errors by the Cougars handed the opening set to the Bullets.
Gettysburg led for most of the second set and rebounded from an early deficit to complete the sweep against Kean.
Stranick hit a dozen kills again and picked up a double-double with a dozen digs. Gelling added eight kills and Horowitz finished with eight. Sequeira put up 25 digs for the Bullets.
Gettysburg hosts Franklin & Marshall College on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m.
