Amanda Vinges (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) were all double-winners as Gettysburg College knocked off Ursinus College 8-1 in Centennial Conference women's tennis action Saturday afternoon.
Gettysburg (2-6, 1-1 CC) took two of three doubles bouts to open the day. Paul and classmate
Erin Sweeney (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) put the Bullets on the board with an 8-3 win at No. 3 before Boardman and Vinges teamed up for an 8-6 win at the top flight.
Ursinus managed to erase a 2-1 deficit by winning four singles matches in a 5-4 win over Gettysburg last spring, but the Bullets left nothing on the table in sweeping singles action Saturday. Vinges and Paul handled their foes in straight-sets at No. 3 (6-2, 7-5) and No. 5 (6-4, 6-0), respectively, while sophomore
Ava Vanhelfteren (Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury) also won in straight-sets 6-2, 6-1 at sixth singles.
After dropping the opening set 6-1 to Aileen BeVard at No. 1, junior
Maria Martinovic (Lawrence Township, N.J./Princeton Day School) rebounded to win the next two 6-4 and 7-5. Boardman went even longer at the second flight, rallying from a first-set setback to close out a marathon match 5-7, 6-4, 12-10.
Junior
Maddie Class (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) finished the match with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 victory at fifth singles.
Gettysburg visits Juniata College in a non-conference match on Wednesday, April 4, at 4 p.m.
