GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg College made quick work of Bryn Mawr College 9-0 in Centennial Conference women's tennis action on Saturday.
Gettysburg (3-7, 2-2 CC) swept Bryn Mawr (4-9, 0-4 CC) for the first time since 2013. The Bullets opened with a pair of 8-4 decisions in doubles play by the No. 2 team of juniors
Maria Martinovic (Lawrence Township, N.J./Princeton Day School) and
Maddie Class (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and the No. 3 team of seniors
Erin Sweeney (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) and
Erica Paul (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow). Sophomore
Samantha Boardman (Greenwich, Conn./Brooks School) and freshman
Amanda Vinges (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) capped the doubles weep with a 9-7 win at the top flight.
Martinovic, Vinges, and Paul each cruised to straight-set wins at No. 1 (6-4, 6-0), No. 3 (6-3, 6-4), and No. 4 (6-3, 6-1), respectively. Freshman
Ava VanHelfteren (Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury) also claimed a straight-set win 6-3, 6-2 at the sixth position.
Class and Boardman closed the victory in tiebreakers. Class bounced back from a loss in the opening set to beat Christina Xue 1-6, 6-4, 10-7. Boardman dropped the first contest 6-3, but rebounded for 6-1 and 6-3 victories over Hannah Sherman at No. 2.
Gettysburg hosts Franklin & Marshall College Tuesday at 4 p.m.
