Jonathan Molina scored the game-winning goal to lift the Bullets past the Pirates, 2-1.
Tonight's contest marked the first meeting between Gettysburg and Whitworth University.
The Bullets struck first as junior
Precious Ozoh (Abuja, Nigeria/Holderness School (N.H.)) scored on a penalty kick at the 13:05 marker in the first half to take an early 1-0 lead.
Gettysburg kept hammering at the frame in the first half as they outshot Whitworth 11-5, but the score would remain 1-0 heading into the half.
Whitworth's first shot at the net in the second half resulted in a goal by Kyle Cacoyannis to tie the contest at 1-1 with 40 minutes remaining in regulation.
20 minutes later, sophomore
Sam Lerman (Wayzata, Minn./Field School) stole the ball, one-touched it to freshman
Connor Fife (Newtown, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) who then sent a pass to sophomore
Jonathan Molina (Adelphi, Md./DeMatha Catholic) who drilled a crisp, sharp shot into the top left corner of the net to score the game-winner for the Bullets.
In the final seconds of the game, Whitworth had an opportunity to net a shot, but it was blocked by the Bullets strong defense.
Gettysburg ended the contest with a commanding 20-8 shot advantage while both teams recorded two corner kicks each.
Between the pipes,
Thomas Keane (Potomac, Md./Gonzaga College) registered two saves, while Jesus Nunez collected seven for the Pirates.
Gettysburg will host the nationally 23rd-ranked SUNY Cortland on Saturday at 5 p.m.
