Gettysburg, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's tennis team won its second-straight match of the season with a 6-3 victory over Catholic University on Friday.
The Bullets scored a pair of wins in doubles action to take the early 2-1 lead. Senior Maria Martinovic (Lawrence Township, N.J./Princeton Day School) and sophomore Amanda Vinges (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) took an 8-2 decision over Erin Cole and Grace Connell at first doubles. The other point came in third doubles as senior Maddie Class (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and freshman Alexis Rinker (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) took down Christina Cochrane and Bridget Kilkelly 8-2.
Gettysburg claimed the first, third, fifth, and sixth flights in singles play. For the second-straight match, Martinovic won her singles flight in perfect fashion as she dominated 6-0, 6-0 over Erin Cole at No. 1. Class claimed a 6-4, 6-3 win over Grace Connell at No. 3, while sophomore Samantha Anastasious (Scotch Plains, N.J./Wardlaw Hartridge School) and Rinker followed with victories at the fifth and sixth spots, respectively. Anastasious won 7-5, 6-4 over Christina Cochrane, while Rinker posted a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Bridget Kilkelly.
Gettysburg hosts St. Mary's College of Maryland on Saturday, September 29, at noon.
