GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's tennis team took care of business on a beautiful Saturday afternoon on the Battlefield, dispatching visiting St. Mary's (Md.) College 6-3 in a non-conference match up.
Gettysburg (3-0) picked up its second win in as many days despite being a bit short-handed. The Bullets won six of the seven played matches, while allowing forfeits at third doubles and sixth singles.
Seniors
Maria Martinovic (Lawrence Township, N.J./Princeton Day School) and
Maddie Class (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and junior
Theresa Blickenstaff (Fairfield, Pa./Delone Catholic) each posted a pair of wins. Martinovic and Blickenstaff scored an 8-5 win over Claire Bodine and Alden Grosh at the top doubles flight, while Class teamed up with freshman
Alexis Rinker (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) for an 8-2 decision at No. 2.
Martinovic ended her day with a pair of bagels (6-0, 6-0) against Bodine at the top singles position. Class followed with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 2 and Blickenstaff won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5. Freshman
Shelby Deron (Holden, Maine/Hampden Academy) rounded out the victory with a 6-0, 6-4 decision at fourth singles.
Gettysburg closes its fall campaign at home against York (Pa.) College Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
