Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision at F&M

LANCASTER, Pa. –Gettysburg College (12-10, 3-3 CC) came up short in its bid to knock off Centennial Conference front-runner Franklin & Marshall College (16-3, 7-0 CC) as the host Diplomats held off the Bullets for a 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 25-22) decision Wednesday night.

Match Summary
  • Set 1: The opening set featured seven lead changes and 10 ties. The Bullets took a 15-10 advantage following a 4-0 run capped by a kill by Kuba-McCoy. The Diplomats came right back with their own four-point surge and eventually took a 20-18 lead. Gettysburg pulled even at 23 before the hosts closed the match with back-to-back kills by Polisano and Morrow.
  • Set 2: Despite an early four-point lead, Gettysburg fell behind as Franklin & Marshall mounted a seven-point run to jump ahead 13-10. The Bullets rallied late with a kill by Horowitz setting the stage for a set-ending 7-1 run. Horowitz totaled three kills during the surge, while Sequeira served up three aces.
  • Set 3: The momentum went back-and-forth in the third set with neither team leading by more than three points until a four-point run by F&M made it 20-15. Gettysburg cut the lead down to a point twice, including on a kill by senior Shannon Fletcher (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) which made it 22-21. The Diplomats closed the set with the final three points.
  • Set 4: Franklin & Marshall raced out to a 9-3 lead. The Bullets continued to fight and pulled even at 13-13 after a 7-0 run. Gettysburg forced three more ties, but came up short of taking the lead. Tied 22-all, the Diplomats rattled off the last three points to close out the victory.

  • F&M logged a hitting percentage of .267, while Gettysburg came in at .193.
  • Both teams served up eight aces.
  • The Diplomats led in blocks 12-7.

Franklin & Marshall posted its fourth consecutive win over Gettysburg. The Bullets lead the all-time series 38-21.
