Franklin & Marshall Tops Men’s Soccer

Diplomats defeat Bullets 2-0

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision against fourth-ranked Franklin & Marshall College on a wet and rainy Centennial Conference Wednesday night at Clark Field.

How It Happened…
  • First Half: In an evenly matched opening half, the Bullets finished the stanza by outshooting the Diplomats 9-5 with three being shots on goal.
  • Second Half: As the rain picked up steadily in the final half, the two rivals continued to battle it out. Sophomore Oladayo Thomas (Lagos, Nigeria/The Masters [N.Y.]) pounded the first shot three minutes in, looking to put the Bullets on the scoreboard, but Amoruso denied the shot. A couple of minutes later, Adamson scored a header off the corner kick that was taken by Geuder to give the Diplomats the 1-0 lead. With 15 minutes to go, F&M added its final tally of the night off a penalty kick that was taken by Kopacz. The Orange and Blue had some looks down the stretch, but were unable to connect.

Centennial Conference Standings
  • The Bullets are fifth in the conference standings following tonight's match with 13 points along with Haverford. Swarthmore College is fourth with 14 points, and Dickinson College is third with 18 points.
Where the Series Stands Now
F&M now holds a 47-35-5 lead over the Bullets in the all-time series that stretches all the way back to 1930. The Diplomats have won the last 11 meetings.  
 
Next Up
Gettysburg hosts Ursinus College on Saturday, Nov. 2, in another CC affair at Clark Field on Senior Day. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
