How It Happened…
  • First Half:  In a competitive match from start to finish, the Blue Jays looked like they were going to hold an early lead, but senior defender Tatum Lareau (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) made a fantastic save inside the cage to keep Johns Hopkins off the scoreboard. Shortly after that, the Blue Jays did strike as Maheras headed the ball in off a corner kick from Damron with 19:20 on the clock. Muskus scored the equalizer off a rebound from the goalkeeper with under nine minutes to play in the half. The Bullets looked promising to take the lead with under five minutes remaining as freshman Lena Schaefer (Atlanta, Ga./Lakeside) had a great look at the cage, but Hendricks made the stop.
  • Second Half: The Bullets defensive unit made another outstanding stop as junior Julia Myers (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) was there to block the shot from heading into the back of the net just six minutes into the half. Reigning Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year Jackson netted the second goal for Johns Hopkins to give her team the 2-1 lead. Gettysburg answered right back less than 1:30 later as Cenatiempo passed to Klatt, who went one-on-one with the goalkeeper to sneak the ball into the back of the night. Cenatiempo took a header that looked like it was about to go into the left side of the net with 11 seconds left in regulation, but it sailed wide left.
  • Overtime: After ending regulation tied at two-all, Bedell sent a long ball to Cenatiempo who fended off a Blue Jays defender to notch the game-winner in the 97th minute.
Quote from the Coach
  • "A massive win tonight that we dedicated to our seniors who drove us to win and make the playoffs," said head coach Matt Garrett. "We showed a great winning mentality that we should be proud of."
By the Numbers
  • Johns Hopkins finished with the 22-14 shot advantage and the 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
  • With the win tonight, Gettysburg has now won back-to-back games against nationally-ranked opponents.
  • The last time the Orange and Blue defeated a top-10 nationally ranked opponent was against Johns Hopkins on Nov. 1, 2014, when they were No. 6.
Centennial Conference Standings
  • The Bullets clinched a ticket into the playoffs with tonight's win and now find themselves in third place in the CC standings heading into the final game of the season. With 19 points, Gettysburg trails Haverford College by one point for the second conference playoff spot, as Dickinson College is first with 23 points after going 7-0-2 in the league. Johns Hopkins and McDaniel College are tied with 18 points apiece.
Where the Series Stands Now
The Blue Jays lead the Bullets 19-14-1 in the all-time series that started in 1992. Johns Hopkins had won the last three meetings heading into tonight's match.
