WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – For the first time in program history, the Gettysburg College softball team battled both the College of Wooster and Washington University in St. Louis at The Spring Games in Florida on Tuesday. The Bullets won the 3-0 opener over the Fighting Scots and fell 10-2 in six innings against the Bears in game two.
Senior
Morgan Clauser (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) pitched a complete shutout game for the second time in two days for the Bullets. She tossed three strikeouts and allowed only two hits and a walk to maintain perfect (4-0) from the circle.
In the top of the first inning, the Bullets came out swinging as junior leadoff hitter
Sarahrose Jonik (Glenmoore, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) belted a solo home run, her second of the season, giving the Bullets an early 1-0 start.
Gettysburg picked up another homer in the top of the fourth inning when designated hitter senior
Meredith Taylor (Hamilton, N.J./Northern Burlington) blasted a two-run dinger to center field, extending the Bullets lead to three.
The Gettysburg (5-2) defense played stellar as Wooster (1-2) never made it past first base throughout the entire game to seal the victory.

Sophia Blasius (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey), junior
Rachel Julie (Elmsford, N.Y./Briarcliff), Jonik, and Taylor each tallied a hit. Jonik added an RBI and a run scored, while Taylor produced two RBI and a run.
In what started as a tight game against Washington, quickly turned in the top of the fifth inning.
The Bears (4-1) notched their first run in the top of the first with an RBI single to center field by Taylor Arends. Washington then tacked on six runs in the top of the fifth to take a commanding 7-0 advantage.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Gettysburg collected its third homer of the day as sophomore pinch hitter
Brynn Griffith (Maple Glen, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) pounded her first career two-run bomb, putting Gettysburg on the scoreboard.
Washington added three more runs in the top of the sixth inning to complete the scoring to take the 10-2 win.
Griffith went 1-for-1 at the plate with a run, homer, and two RBI. Sophomore
Shelby Baker (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North), sophomore
Emily Colline (Bridgewater, N.J./Immaculata), and junior
Liz Cowell (Verona, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic) each tallied a hit.
Gettysburg continues play down at The Spring Games with two games on Thursday. The Bullets take on Plymouth State University and Montclair State University at 9:45 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively.
