GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College volleyball team kicked off the 2019 campaign with a pair of sweeps over Lancaster Bible College and Elizabethtown College at its own Battlefield Classic inside Bream Gym Friday evening.

Match Summary
First Set: Tied 8-8, Gettysburg sped away with a 10-2 run that included two kills by Higgins. The Chargers managed to trim the lead down to 21-18 before Garison went off for four kills to close out the victory.
Second Set: The Bullets controlled the action after scoring the first three points. Lancaster Bible kept it close for the first half of the match before another patented run bolstered by three consecutive errors by the visitors pushed the lead to 23-12.
Third Set: Lancaster Bible struggled to find its offense in the final frame with 10 attacking errors and a negative hitting percentage (-.031). After trailing early, the Bullets cruised to the victory with freshman
Kat Wilt (Madison, N.J./Madison) finding open court space for the match-clinching kill.

Gettysburg has won all four meetings with Lancaster Bible, including three sweeps. This was the first meeting between the two teams since 2013.

Match Summary
First Set: Gettysburg's high-flying attack was on full display in the opening set with Elizabethtown as the Bullets pounded down 12 kills on 26 attempts with one error (.423 hitting percentage). Stranick set the tone with five kills and Fletcher was perfect on all three of her attacks in the set.
Second Set: Elizabethtown erased an early five-point deficit to pull to 13-12 on a kill by Miller. Three consecutive kills by Fletcher, Garison, and Stranick regained momentum on the way to another double-digit win.
Third Set: The Bullets started slow in the finale, falling behind 7-3 following another kill by Miller. Two errors by the Blue Jays and two kills by Garison and Fletcher tied the score and Gettysburg began its march to victory. Elizabethtown sliced the deficit to a pair of points at 17-15, but a quick six-point spurt by Gettysburg turned the tide for good and Stranick put the finishing touch on the win with her final kill.

Today's match was the 41st meeting between Gettysburg and Elizabethtown. The Bullets improved to 29-12 against the Blue Jays and have claimed the last two meetings.
A Classic Start
Gettysburg has won its first two matches at the Battlefield Classic in each of the last three seasons and the Bullets have swept the last seven contests at its home tournament. Dating back to 2016, Gettysburg has won 12 consecutive contests at the Battlefield Classic.
Looking Ahead
Gettysburg turns right back around with two matches against Salve Regina University (0-2) and Messiah College (2-0) on day two of the Classic Saturday. The Bullets open against Salve Regina at 10 a.m. followed by Messiah at 2 p.m.
