Match Summary
Set 1: Gettysburg found itself down quickly as Washington and Lee's attack dominated in the opener. The Generals committed just one error while pounding down 14 kills in 28 attempts. After a kill by Stranick cut the deficit to 17-14, the hosts closed out the match with an 8-2 run aided by four attack errors by the Bullets.
Set 2: Washington and Lee didn't slow down in the second set and led from start-to-finish. The Generals posted 16 kills and committed just two hitting errors in the set. Gould posted six kills, including back-to-back putdowns to cap a 10-2 run and make it a double-figure lead at 21-11.
Set 3: The Bullets recovered from an early 6-3 deficit to run off six consecutive points to grab the momentum. Kuba-McCoy helped stir the team with several big hits to push the lead to 16-10. Washington and Lee rallied, however, and gradually pulled in front 23-22 on an ace by Mollie Ray. Kuba-McCoy stemmed the tide with a kill and following an attack error by Berry, the Gettysburg first-year tipped in the set-clinching kill.
Set 4: The two teams punished the ball in the fourth frame, combining for 31 kills. The set featured a total of six lead changes and 10 ties. Just when it seemed Gettysburg had taken control at 17-14, Washington and Lee chipped the margin down and tied it at 21-21. The Generals held match point 25-24, but Fletcher emphatically stuffed Kiera Borthwick to turn the tide once again. An attack error by Gould was followed up with a kill by Adams to seal the Gettysburg win.
Set 5: Sokolow gave Washington and Lee the initial lead in the final set, a lead the hosts would not relinquish. Gettysburg tied the score 5-5 on a kill by Kuba-McCoy, but three consecutive points by the Generals swung the pendulum back to the home court. The Bullets would pull to 8-7 before four-straight points by the hosts.
