Match Highlights
- First Set: Gettysburg was rolling early in the match, posting five of the first six points and jumping in front 14-4 following a kill by Holtz. McDaniel clawed its way back into the match and eventually pulled to 19-17 on a kill by Allyson Burgee. The Bullets stopped the Green Terror thanks in part to three big blocks. Holtz teamed with senior Ingrid Bayer (Falls Church, Va./Bishop O'Connell) for the first stuff before combining with sophomore Olivia Biggs (Winchester, Va./James Wood) for the final two. Holtz and Biggs sent Jezerski's final attack attempt straight to the floor for the clinching point.
- Second Set: The two teams traded points until Gettysburg started to inch away on the scoreboard. The score stood at 13-12 when a block by Holtz and Bayer ignited a quick 6-1 run. A dump by Ellis made it 23-15 and Ellis set up sophomore Izzy Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) for a kill to push the lead to 24-17. Gettysburg sealed the win on a service error by McDaniel.
- Third Set: The final set featured 18 ties and nine lead changes. The teams went back-and-forth with McDaniel jumping ahead 8-6 and Gettysburg coming back to take a 14-11 lead. McDaniel forced Gettysburg to call timeout after tying the set 15-15 on an ace by Taveras. Neither team would lead by more than a point until the end of the match. The Green Terror held set point at 24-23, but Holtz came through with a knockdown to tie things up. An attack error by the visitors set Gettysburg on match point and Horowitz delivered with a hard strike off Jezerski's hands in the back row.
By the Numbers
- Gettysburg hit .261 in the match, marking its fourth outing over .200 in its last five contests. McDaniel finished with more kills (39-37), but the Bullets net defense was dominant with nine total team blocks.
- Horowitz continued a late-season surge with her second consecutive outing with double-figure kills. The senior outside hitter has tallied 30 kills over the last three matches.
- With the win, Gettysburg secured the No. 5 seed for the CC Championship and will make its first appearance in the postseason since 2014. The Bullets will play at No. 4 seed Franklin & Marshall College next Wednesday (Nov. 3).
