Beccaria Strikes Twice at No. 14 Ursinus

Bears top Bullets 8-2 in season finale

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Senior Lauren Beccaria (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) scored a pair goals for the second-straight contest, but that did little to slow 14th-ranked Ursinus College on its home turf as the Bears topped the Bullets 8-2 in the regular season finale.

Game Summary
  • First Quarter: Ursinus rolled out quickly as Bruggeman scored the opening goal just 2:45 into the contest. Besselman prevented more damage with a save in the seventh minute and Shaffer swiped a ball off the line for a defensive save at 8:03. Gettysburg tied the contest 1-1 with Beccaria reaching out with her stick and slapping the ball past the goalie at 12:22. The Bears retook the lead on a goal by Groeling with eight seconds left in the period.
  • Second Quarter: The two teams combined for only two shots in the second period. Ursinus cashed in on its attempt with Moore giving the hosts a 3-1 lead with a score at 19:56.
  • Third Quarter: Ursinus scored its third-straight goal on a shot by Mary Lauren Franz in the 36th minute. Beccaria cut the lead down to 4-2 after receiving a long pass from Vadinsky and quickly pushing the ball into the corner of the cage just 35 seconds later. Moore picked up her second goal with 50 seconds left.
  • Fourth Quarter: The Bears posted eight shots and seven penalty corners in the final period. Ursinus tallied three goals with Maeve Montgomery scoring the game's final tally as time expired.
 
By the Numbers
  • Ursinus led in shots (17-8) and penalty corners (13-3).
  • The loss knocked Gettysburg out of playoff contention, while Ursinus clinched the No. 2 in the Centennial Conference Tournament.
  • Beccaria turned in her fifth career multi-goal game. The senior finished her career with 21 goals and six assists.
  • Senior Emma Bertrando (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) finished her career ranked among the program's career top 10 in assists (2nd, 22) and points (T-8th, 76). Bertrando posted 27 goals in her career, including a dozen game-winners.

Ursinus improved its record to 41-5 in the all-time series with Gettysburg.
