How It Happened…
- First Quarter
- The Bullets put Ohio Northern on notice in the game's first minute as Raymond took it to the cage himself 42 seconds after the opening face-off. Senior Griffin Gallagher (Ardmore, Pa./Shipley School) added an unassisted tally 37 seconds later before McGovern took over the rest of the period, tallying three goals off passes from three different teammates. His last goal came after a feed by junior Aidan Wykoff (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) from behind the cage with 7:35 left in the opening period.
- The Polar Bears found no give against Gettysburg's swarming defense with both Puckhaber and freshman Andy Marquet (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) causing turnovers in the final three minutes. MacMillan was up to task as well, stopping both shots he saw on goal in the period.
- Second Quarter
- Ohio Northern broke the egg on a goal by John Lynn just over two minutes into the second quarter. The Bullets responded by reeling off the next four goals with the first three coming right after face-off wins by Moshe. Four different players lit the lamp and a man-up goal by senior Connor Hume (Elkridge, Md./Loyola Blakefield) pushed the lead to 9-1 with 7:59 left in the half.
- After back-to-back goals by the Polar Bears, Gettysburg went on a 4-0 run to end the half. Knife blasted the back of the net for the first goal and the second tally came after a save by MacMillan. The senior goalie fired a long-outlet pass to midfield and the ball eventually found its way to Barbera who made a quick move around the defense for his first collegiate goal at 3:02. McGovern and Howard added goals to push the advantage to 13-3.
- Third Quarter
- MacMillan made a series of saves to kick off the second half and Raymond converted the easiest goal of the season so far, catching an errant pass from Polar Bear defenseman in front of the cage and tossing the ball to the net. The junior attackman found Knife two minutes later to make it 15-3.
- Raymond broke up another clear attempt by the visitors late in the period and Howard turned in his second goal for a 16-4 advantage.
- Fourth Quarter
- Gettysburg put the game into cruise control in the fourth quarter and sent in the reserves. Following a penalty on the Polar Bears, junior Connor Devine (Malvern, Pa./Haverford) found senior Elon Tuckman (Princeton, N.J./Princeton Day School) for the game's final tally at 1:27.
By the Numbers
- Gettysburg finished with a 53-36 edge in shots and a 35-22 advantage in ground balls. Ohio Northern held the edge in face-offs won 13-12, but the Polar Bears committed 20 turnovers in the contest.
- Raymond posted seven points for the second time this season. The junior attackman also totaled seven points on six goals and one assist against Goucher College on Feb. 23. Raymond's five assists were a new personal high.
- McGovern doubled his goal total on the season with a personal high on Friday.
- MacMillan posted double-figure saves for the third consecutive game. He has saved 62 percent of the shots he has seen on goal this spring.
- Ohio Northern was playing its second ranked opponent of the week. On Wednesday, the Polar Bears dropped a 24-2 decision to No. 2 Salisbury University. Ohio Northern's five opponents this season have hailed from five different states: Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
