How It Happened…
  • First Quarter
    • The action was hot and heavy in the opening period with 12 goals scored in the final 13 minutes. Howard tossed in the first tally for Gettysburg before Stevenson went on a three-goal run with goals by Brannan, Grant Zick and Scaliti.
    • The Mustangs led 4-2 with 6:32 to play before back-to-back goals by the Bullets tied things up. Senior Griffin Gallagher (Ardmore, Pa./Shipley School) scored the first on a feed from Ward and Raymond netted the second goal off a pass from Howard to tie the score 4-4 with 3:45 left.
    • Stevenson broke a 5-5 tie with the final two goals of the period. Coleman went to the net for an unassisted tally and Mitchell Lachman tacked on another goal just seven seconds later to put the score at 7-5.
  • Second Quarter
    • The Bullets took control in the second quarter with an opening three-goal run. Ward had a hand in all three goals, scoring the first and dishing out assists to sophomore Brady McGovern (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum School) and Howard, the final helper leading to an 8-7 advantage with 10:37 left.
    • Coleman forced a temporary tie at 9:13, but Ward took matters into his own hands and put Gettysburg back in front with an unassisted tally. MacMillan came up with a big save on a man-up opportunity for Stevenson and shortly after Ward found Mather for a goal to make it 10-8.
  • Third Quarter
    • The third quarter quickly developed into a goalie battle with MacMillan and Poust combining for a dozen saves. MacMillan turned in an incredible four-save sequence in just over a minute with Gettysburg a man-down, including a diving stop on a one-on-one with Shane Ford with 9:30 left in the period. Poust turned in his own four-save performance in a minute shortly after to keep the margin at two goals.
    • Gettysburg cashed in on a man-up opportunity with just over five minutes left. Knife converted following a pass from Raymond to push the Bullets in front 11-8. Poust tacked on two more saves in the final two minutes to maintain the score.
  • Fourth Quarter
    • The goalies continued to hold firm inside their respective circles with MacMillan even managing to stop a long toss from Poust aimed at the net. That stop led to another goal by Knife a minute later to push the Bullets in front 12-8.
    • Brannan eventually broke a nearly 35-minute scoring drought for Stevenson by scoring an unassisted goal at 4:42. The Mustangs appeared poised for more action at the cage with two simultaneous penalties on the Bullets, but MacMillan stone-walled Cam Leydig on a shot at 3:35. A final stop by the Gettysburg goalie with 45 seconds left sealed the win.

By the Numbers
  • Stevenson led in shots (46-45), ground balls (25-24), and face-offs won (18-7). The Bullets held the Mustangs without a goal on six man-up opportunities.
  • MacMillan produced his highest save total since recording a career-high 23 saves in a win over No. 7 York (Pa.) College on March 4, 2020.
  • Ward matched his career high for points against Stevenson. The senior also tallied six points against McDaniel College last spring.
  • Stevenson came into the game ranked 15th in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III Poll and 10th in the USA Lacrosse Magazine Division III Poll. Gettysburg is 15th in the USILA rankings and is unranked by Lax Magazine.
