Gettysburg, Pa. - Gettysburg College won the top four flights in singles competition to defeat Goucher College 5-4 in a non-conference men's tennis match on Wednesday at the Bullets Tennis Courts.
Freshman
Michael Fellman (Rockville, Md./Thomas S. Wootton) and junior
Matt Rau (Castle Rock, Col./Regis Jesuit) were two-time winners to lead the Bullets (7-5) on the day.
The visiting Gophers (6-6) won two of the three doubles matches on Wednesday. Goucher took the top pairing, 8-6, and claimed the No. 3 flight, 8-3.
Fellman and Rau teamed up for Gettysburg's lone point in doubles play with an 8-6 triumph at No. 2.
Trailing 2-1 entering singles action, the Bullets won the top three flights in straight sets.
Sophomore
Alex Kagan (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 1, Fellman cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 2, and sophomore
Michael Zayneh (Hilton Head Island, S.C./Heritage Academy) notched a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3.
Rau battled to a decisive three-set win at No. 4, earning his second victory of the day by besting his opponent 6-4, 6-7 (7–9), 10-6.
The Bullets suffered narrow defeats in the final two singles matchups. Freshman
Hayden Strittmatter (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) was edged out at No. 5, 6-4, 2-6, 7-10) while senior
Max Levy (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) fell 3-6, 5-7 at No. 6.
Gettysburg resumes Centennial Conference play on Saturday when it hosts Washington College. First serves are set for 1:00 p.m. at the Bullets Tennis Courts.
