Bullets Find Offense in Nightcap, Split Doubleheader at Haverford

Gettysburg has split each of its past four CC series

Haverford, Pa. — Gettysburg College responded to an opening game setback with 10 unanswered runs to force a Centennial Conference baseball series split against Haverford College. The Bullets won the nightcap 10-7 after falling 10-4 in the opener.

The Bullets (15-15, 6-4 CC) have split its past four Centennial Conference series.

Sophomore Tristan Neels (San Diego, Calif.) went 3 for 5 in each game.

Game 2: Gettysburg 10, Haverford 7

In Friday's win, Gettysburg put together 10 runs in the first seven innings. The Bullets held off a late Haverford charge that produced seven runs in the final third frames.

JR McCloskey went 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs. Tristan Neels factored in with three hits and three RBIs.

Junior Matthew Peipher (Lititz, Pa.) and junior Preston Toothman (Orlando, Fla.) each tallied a pair of hits.

Senior starting pitcher Teo Torrado (New York City) secured a quality start. He allowed 6 1/3 innings with seven hits, three earned runs and four strikeouts.

Senior Nate Masteralexis (Amherst, Mass.) put the brakes on the Haverford rally by pitching a perfect inning to close the game. Facing a 10-3 deficit, the Ford tacked on two runs on a single to right field, and the Bullets called on Masteralexis to punctuate the win with two runners in scoring position. He forced a pair of RBI groundouts to clear the bases. Masteralexis got Zach Landry to pop-out to right fielder Tristan Neels to end the game.

McCloskey gave the Bullets an early 2-0 lead with a two-out single in top of the second inning. Senior Andrew Decker (Baltimore, Md.) led off with a single up the middle, and the Bullets loaded the bases on back-to-back hit-batsmen. After the next two batters were sent down on strikes, McCloskey ripped a ball to left field.

Gettysburg added five runs to its total in the fourth inning. Again, McCloskey drove in a run on a bases-loaded opportunity, scoring junior outfielder Mark Seibert (Yardley, Pa.) on an RBI walk. Junior Kyle Miller (Montclair, N.J.) scored Peipher on a fielder's choice, and Matt Muir's (South Easton, Mass.) double to right center that gave Gettysburg a 7-0 lead.

In the sixth, McCloskey led off with a double to right field. Neels hit a double of his own to score the team's eighth run. An inning later, Toothman batted a run-scoring triple and reached home on a wild pitch for the team's final tally.
