Gettysburg, Pa. - Gettysburg College rolled to a 9-0 victory over visiting Lebanon Valley College in a non-conference men's tennis match on Wednesday at the Bullets Tennis Courts to secure its winningest season in a decade.
The Bullets (8-7), who posted their sixth sweep of the season, now have their most wins in a season since 2012.
Gettysburg got off to a strong start on Wednesday by winning all three doubles matches against the Dutchmen (13-6).
Sophomores
Alex Kagan (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) and
Michael Zayneh (Hilton Head Island, S.C./Heritage Academy) cruised to an 8-1 victory at No. 1 while freshman
Michael Fellman (Rockville, Md./Thomas S. Wootton) and junior
Matt Rau (Castle Rock, Col./Regis Jesuit) swept their opponents at No. 2, 8-0.
Senior
Alec Shalk (Milton, Del./Smyrna) and freshman
Hayden Strittmatter (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) rounded out the doubles action with an 8-4 triumph at No. 3.
The Bullets pulled away with the match in singles play, winning four of the six contests in straight sets.
Kagan notched his second win of the day at No. 1, 6-3, 6-3 and Fellman did the same at No. 2 in dominating fashion, 6-1, 6-0.
Zayneh battled to his second victory by taking a three-set match at No. 3, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (10-6), and Rau won at No. 4, 6-1, 6-4.
Strittmatter became the fifth player for the Bullets with a two-win day by rallying for a 2-6, 6-1, 10-4 victory at No. 5 while sophomore
Jeffrey Seybolt (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury) earned a 6-3, 7-5 decision at No. 6.
Gettysburg travels to Baltimore on Thursday for a Centennial Conference match against No. 20 Johns Hopkins University starting at 4:00 p.m.
