Bullets Suffer CC Setback at No. 20 Johns Hopkins

Gettysburg closes out its season on Saturday against Haverford

Baltimore, Md. - Johns Hopkins University, currently ranked 20th in the nation, swept doubles competition and won all six singles matches in straight sets to defeat visiting Gettysburg College 9-0 in Centennial Conference men's tennis action on Thursday.
 
The Blue Jays (14-1, 4-1 CC) had three players post a pair of wins on the day while limiting the Bullets (8-8, 1-6 CC) to wins in four games in doubles competition and ten in singles action. 
 
At No. 1 doubles, Daniel Ardila and Thomas Yu posted an 8-0 victory over Sophomores Alex Kagan (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) and Michael Zayneh (Hilton Head Island, S.C./Heritage Academy).
 
Freshman Michael Fellman (Rockville, Md./Thomas S. Wootton) and junior Matt Rau (Castle Rock, Col./Regis Jesuit) played the tightest match in doubles but fell to Andrew Tran and Brian Wang, 8-3.
 
Marco Azar and Ryan Hellinger bested senior Alec Shalk (Milton, Del./Smyrna) and freshman Hayden Strittmatter (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) at No. 3, 8-1.  
 
In singles action, Yu notched his second win of the day at No. 1 by topping Kagan, 6-1, 6-1 while Ardila defeated Fellman at No. 2, 6-0, 6-4. Wang added his second victory with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Zayneh at No. 3.
 
Alexander Kernagis notched a 6-0, 6-0 win over Rau at No. 4, Nick Charanjiva notched a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Strittmatter at No. 5, and Karan Belday scored a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over sophomore Jeffrey Seybolt (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury) at No. 6.
 
Gettysburg wraps up the 2021-22 season on Saturday with a Centennial Conference match against Haverford College starting at 12:00 p.m. at the Bullets Tennis Courts.
