Basso Dishes Eight to Keep Bullets Undefeated in Centennial Play

Emily Crane adds 10 draw controls to hat track

CARLISLE, Pa. — For the second time this season, sophomore Jordan Basso contributed the second-most, single-game assists in program history. Eighth-ranked Gettysburg College ousted Dickinson College 22-10 Wednesday to remain undefeated in Centennial Conference women's lacrosse action.

Basso (Rye, N.Y./Rye) dished out eight assists, in addition to one goal, for a nine-point effort. She moved into a three-way tie for No. 2 in the single-game assists record book. Basso matched her career-high assists mark, previously set during a March 26 win over Haverford College.

Freshman Emily Crane (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) recorded the sixth most single-game draw controls. Crane corralled 10 draw controls to complement her first career hat trick.

Gettysburg (8-3, 3-0 CC) remains deadlocked atop the Centennial standings. The Bullets are even with No. 3 Franklin & Marshall in first place.

Junior Gabi Connor (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) led the Bullets offensively with four goals, marking her fourth game of the season with three or more goals. Junior Kelly O'Connor (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) also had her first career hat trick, doubling her career total of three goals.

Providing two-goal efforts were sophomore Caroline Sullivan (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe), senior Caroline Keenaghan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) and sophomore Jenna King (Millersville, Md./Severna Park). The Bullets' Cecily Stabler (Summit, N.J./Summit) provided a goal and assist.

On the draw, sophomore Regan Rightmire (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) finished with five and junior Katie Fullowan (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) won four. As a team, Gettysburg held a 22-12 advantage in draw controls.

A quartet of Bullets appeared in net to hold the Red Devils to a combined five goals. Freshman Juliette deVarenne (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) made three stops, and sophomore Emma Ortiz (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) turned away a pair of Dickinson attempts.

Gettysburg opened with three goals scored in the opening two minutes. Sullivan tallied the first a mere 32 seconds into regulation. Basso scored her lone goal just after the minute mark and assisted Connor 40 seconds later.

The Red Devils put two goals on the scoreboard to cut the Bullets' lead to 3-2. Faith Parker and Liv Yeagle scored consecutive goals. King and Senior Maddi Seibel (Newtown, Pa./Pennington School) returned the Bullets' advantage to three within the next three minutes.

Following another Yeagle goal to move within two, Gettysburg went on a three-goal run in less than a minute. Connor capped the first quarter's scoring with her third of the period to give the Bullets a 8-3 lead after the opening stanza.

Gettysburg kicked off the running clock at the 3:49 mark of the second quarter. Keenaghan scored on a Basso feed to stretch the Bullets' lead to 15-5.

Basso had assists on six consecutive Gettysburg goals in the last 7:30 of the first half.

Dickinson (1-7, 0-3 CC) was led by Yeagle's five goals. Emma Wynne finished with five draws.

Gettysburg outshot Dickinson by a 37-22 margin. The Bullets edged the Red Devils 17-13 in ground balls.

Gettysburg will host Swarthmore College on Saturday at 1 p.m. Both the Bullets and Garnet will showcase an ensemble of outrageous hair styles as part of the Game Hair Havor fundraising campaign in support of The HEADstrong Foundation's outreach for cancer patients' families. Heading into Saturday's game, Gettysburg has raised a Division III-leading $4,800  to support the effort.
