Gettysburg, Pa. - Visiting McDaniel College used a four-run third inning and plated three more in the fifth inning to overcome an early deficit on its way to an 11-5 victory over Gettysburg College in Centennial Conference baseball action on Friday at Kirchhoff Field.
The Green Terror (16-10, 1-3 CC) avenged Tuesday's 8-6 loss to the Bullets (12-12, 3-1 CC) to split the regular-season series while dealing Gettysburg its first conference defeat of the spring.
Juniors
Kyle Miller (Montclair, N.J/Montclair) and
Preston Toothman (Orlando, Fla./William R. Boone) both went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored apiece to lead the Bullets. Miller also walked and drove in a run.
Gettysburg opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Miller scored on an RBI double off the bat of sophomore
Tristan Neels (San Diego, Calif./Francis W. Parker).
The Bullets doubled their advantage an inning later as senior
Mark Seibert (Yardley, Pa./Holy Ghost Preparator) came home when junior
JR McCloskey (Huntington Station, N.Y./Chaminade) grounded into a double play.
McDaniel scored the next seven runs to seize control of the contest. The Green Terror scored four runs in the top of the third inning, using two hits and three walks to take a 4-2 advantage.
The visitors then used four singles and a hit batsman to plate three more runs in the visitor's fifth to claim a 7-2 lead.
Gettysburg got a run back in the home fifth when Miller brought sophomore
David Preziuso (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy) home with an RBI base hit.
McDaniel used a pair of two-run singles in the top of the eighth inning to open up an 11-3 lead.
The Bullets closed out the scoring in the bottom half of the frame as Seibert and Toothman both came home on a throwing error by the visitors.
McDaniel held a slim, 13-12 edge in hits for the game, committed two errors. and stranded seven base runners. Gettysburg had a clean defensive game with no errors, but the Bullets finished with 11 runners left on base.
Seibert and Neels finished with two hits apiece with Seibert leading the hosts with two runs scored.
Freshman
Connor Stewart (Hickory, N.C./NC School of Science and Math) was charged with the loss on the mound despite striking out a game-high four batters in 2.1 innings of work.
Junior
Ken Spadaccini (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) fanned three batters in five innings on the hill. Junior
Connor Sikora (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) closed out the contest on the mound for the Bullets, going 1.2 scoreless innings with one punchout.
Gettysburg travels to Swarthmore College on Saturday for a Centennial Conference doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
