Manning promoted to head athletic trainer

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Lindsey Manning, who has served as an assistant athletic trainer at Gettysburg College since 2009, has been promoted to head athletic trainer, announced by Director of Athletic Medicine and Sports Performance Mike Cantele and Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Campus Recreation Mike Mattia on Thursday.

"Lindsey has been an integral member of our staff for the last 14 years," Cantele said. "She provides excellent healthcare to our students and is a vital member of the athletic department. It's exciting to see Lindsey step into that next role of leadership, I look forward to continuing our work together."

Manning currently serves as the primary athletic trainer for the Bullets' football and baseball teams.

Manning came to Gettysburg after receiving her degree in athletic training from Messiah College in 2009. She worked with all of the Falcons' 22 intercollegiate varsity athletic teams, including men's basketball and softball. While earning her degree at Messiah, Manning interned at both Gettysburg College and the Hanover Hospital's Cherry Tree Rehabilitation Center. She has also worked a variety of summer athletic camps at both Gettysburg and nearby Mount St. Mary's University.

A member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, she completed her Master of Science degree from California University of Pennsylvania in 2011.

Manning becomes just the fifth individual to serve as head athletic trainer at Gettysburg since 1927. She is the first female to hold the position.

"I'm grateful and excited for the opportunity to be Gettysburg College's next head athletic trainer," Manning said. "It's an honor to be the first female head athletic trainer and continue the legacy of a strong sports medicine department. I would like to thank Mike Cantele and Mike Mattia for this leadership opportunity."

She joins a list of former head athletic trainers that includes Hall of Athletic Honor members Romeo "Rome" Capozzi (1927-71), Gareth "Lefty" Biser (1971-87), and Joe Donolli (1987-2008).

Cantele has served as head athletic trainer since 2008. He will remain as the Director of Athletic Medicine and Sports Performance as well as the department's health care administrator, overseeing the health and well-being of nearly 600 Bullets student-athletes.
