THE SKINNY STORY
UMBC needed a fourth-quarter rally just to force overtime and then an extra 20 minutes before finally pulling off a 90-83 win over Gettysburg in quadruple overtime.

THE LEADERS
• Mackenzie Szlosek (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) hit 10 of her 21 shots from the field to finish with 22 points.
• Alayna Arnolie (Vienna, Va./James Madison) added 22 points of her own, including hitting three 3-pointers. She also added five assists.

FOR THE FOES
• Anna Blount scored a game-high 29 points to pace the Retrievers, who opened their home schedule with a win.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• Mackenzie Szlosek (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) opened the game with a 3-pointer on the game's first possession before UMBC's Anna Blount responded with a layup on the other end, sparking a 7-2 burst that put the hosts in front by two with 7:41 to play. After the teams traded baskets, Caitlyn Priore (Holland, Pa./Germantown Academy) drained a triple for a 10-9 edge. Trailing 13-11 after Alayna Arnolie (Vienna, Va./James Madison) was fouled on a 3-pointer and hit all three free throws, the Retrievers put together an 8-2 run to open up a 19-15 lead before two more Arnolie free throws made it a two-point game at the end of the first quarter.
• The teams traded points to start the second quarter before a Szlosek layup with 9:00 showing sparked a 7-0 run that gave the Bullets a 26-23 advantage 2 minutes, 40 seconds later. Triples from Arnolie and AB Holsinger (Crozet, Va./Langley) opened up a 34-26 Gettysburg lead with 4:33 on the clock and forced a timeout. The squads traded buckets over the remainder of the opening half and the Bullets took a 40-34 advantage into the locker room.
• Szlosek opened the third quarter with five straight points to give the visitors a double-digit lead. Blount responded with four straight of her own to pull UMBC within 45-38 with 7:50 to play. A minute later, Arnole reestablished the double-digit the lead with her third triple of the night and the Bullets took a 54-44 lead to the final period.
• A Reagan Chrencik (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) 3-pointer and layups from Holsinger and Shinya Lee (Rochester, N.Y./Holderness Prep School) accounted for a 7-0 run in a 2-minute, 26-second span that opened up a 63-48 lead with 6:09 to play. Trinity Palacio, however, hit the Retrievers' first 3-pointer of the game, igniting a 12-2 run to close the deficit to 65-60 with 2:36 remaining. An Arnolie jumper stretched the lead back to seven before Jaden Walker and Jaliena Sanchez hit back-to-back layups to make it a 67-64 game. After Blount hit the second of two free throws to cut the deficit to two, she connected on a second-chance layup to tie the game with 20 seconds on the clock. Gettysburg had a chance at the game-winner later in regulation but could not convert, sending the game to overtime.
• Lee and Blount traded baskets in the first 77 seconds of overtime but then neither team could find the basket until the Holsinger grabbed the defensive rebound with 33 ticks left and the Bullets used a timeout to advance to the ball to the frontcourt. Out of the stoppage, Arnolie buried an eight-footer for the lead with 18 seconds remaining. After a timeout on the other side, Blount hit a layup directly off an out-of-bounds play to retie the game with 10 seconds left. Gettysburg could not get a good look, sending the game to a second overtime.
• Sanchez scored off a Carmen steal and dish for a 73-71 lead with 4:08 remaining. A minute later, Arnolie tied the game for the 10th time to account for the only points of the second five-minute extra session. After Lee opened the third overtime with a layup, UMBC opened up an 80-75 lead with 2:56 remaining but layups from Lee and Szlosek and a Holsinger free throw tied the game once again and forced the fourth overtime. The Retrievers scored the first five points of the fourth extra session before two Emily Violante (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) free throws with 89 seconds remaining made it a one-possession game. UMBC then netted five in a row to secure the victory.
