THE REST OF THE STORY
• Marietta held a 5-0 lead early in the first quarter before
AB Holsinger drove in for the Bullets first basket of the game just over three minutes in. Baskets by
Emily Violante (Easton, Pa./Easton) and
Caitlyn Priore pulled the Bullets within two points, and a
Mackenzie Szlosek 3-pointer made it an 11-10 Gettysburg lead for the first time. Marietta quickly responded with an 8-2 run to regain a five-point advantage. Free throws by
Shinya Lee (Rochester, N.Y./Holderness Prep) and Holsinger made it a narrow 18-16 Marietta lead after one quarter.
• It would take two minutes into the second half before
Kimberly Hopkins laid one in to trim the deficit to two points. Almost 90 seconds later, Szlosek tied things up at 20 apiece before hitting a pull up under a minute later to snatch a two-point lead again. Marietta went on a 6-2 run to grab back the advantage, which
Reagan Chrencik (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solesbury) countered with a layup to tie the game again, 26-all, with 4:10 left in the half. An 8-3 Marietta run closed out the final four minutes for a 34-29 advantage at the break.
• Four straight Priore points brought the game back within one point just 1:05 into the second half. Marietta quickly responded with a 33-34 8:17 16-2 run over a 4 minute, 26 second span to take a 15-point-lead. A three-point play by Hopkins, layup by
Marah McHugh (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and pull up by Szlosek attempted to cut the gap, but the Bullets could only get within 14 points, 56-42, going into the final quarter.
• Two Violante layups and two
Alayna Arnolie (Vienna, Va./James Madison) free throws helped the Bullets close within seven, but Marietta responded with a 13-4 run to get back out to a 14-point gap. Lee and Holsinger hit their shots in the final minute for a 72-60 Marietta win.
