THE REST OF THE STORY
• Washington and Lee capitalized on the first extra-man opportunity of the game when Jack Elliott found Joey Allen for a 1-0 lead at the 9:35 mark.
Kyle Howard and
Jack Dunleavy (New Providence, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) responded with back-to-back solo runs 1 minute, 36 seconds apart for a 2-1 edge with 5:18 on the clock. Will Schnorr converted a second man-up opportunity with 3:17 remaining to draw the hosts even once again. Howard, however, found the back of the net off a pass from
Ethan Kessler (Ridgefield, Conn./Millbrook School) in the final 13 seconds of the opening quarter for a 3-2 lead.
• The Bullets carried that momentum into the second quarter.
Kieran Ward found
George Raymond 70 seconds into the period then converted his own tally with 12:36 showing for a 5-2 advantage. Henry Holliday and Schnorr sandwiched a Dunleavy tally to close the margin to 6-4 with 6:06 remaining but Raymond went back work, finding
Aidan Wykoff (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) and the back of the net himself in the final 3:50 of the half to take an 8-4 advantage into half.
• Raymond connected with Ward for a man-up tally just over three minutes into the third quarter before three different Generals scored to close the margin to 9-7 with 1:07 to play in the period. Ward started the decisive run with a solo tally in the final 20 seconds of the quarter to stretch the lead back to three.
• Ward then found Wykoff with 13:58 remaining in the fourth quarter. Raymond finished a solo run just over a minute later then hit
Ryan Cernuto (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan) with 8:48 on the clock. Kessler finished the five-goal run off a pass from
Stokes Myers (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) with 5:48 to play, opening up a 14-7 lead. Leif Smith and Sam Mannino scored 1:14 apart but Howard put the finishing touches on the six-goal win with just four ticks left.
